AMOS headed to Fremantle after
17 years!

AMOS2020 was truly remarkable; not only has it been 17
years since AMOS was last held in Western Australia (2003),
the conference was only seven months away from AMOS2019
which was held in Darwin in June 2019. AMOS2020 combined
the AMOS Annual Conference and the International Conference
on Indian Ocean Meteorology and Oceanography 2020.
Hundreds of delegates attended the week‑long conference,
and considering the remoteness of WA to the eastern states,
and the fact the previous AMOS was less than a year ago, this
was a huge success.
The conference comfortably ran at a small profit, much to
the relief of the organising committee. Feedback from the
conference was overwhelmingly positive; the choice of
venue for the conference dinner, namely Fraser’s at the Kings
Park Botanical gardens proved to be a crowd pleaser, with
magnificent views of the city of Perth and the Swan River from
the restaurant balcony. Conference attendees from eastern
Australia were much relieved to be able to breathe in the very
good quality air in Fremantle, and enjoyed our natural air
conditioner, the Fremantle Doctor sea‑breeze every afternoon.
Note from the Editorial team: An extended summary of the 2020 Conference is in preparation and will be featured in the
June issue of BAMOS. Please send through your contributions and photos.
