Communicating climate change
Several organisations have teamed up to create a story line
about how the climate has changed over your own lifetime.
Simply enter your year of birth and the content updates to
focus on the years you have been on the planet.
The interactive communication tool titled "See how
global warming has changed the world since your
childhood" is published on the ABC News website and is a
collaborative effort between the Monash Climate Change
Communication Research Hub, ARC Centre of Excellence for
Climate Extremes (CLEX) and ABC Story Lab.
Scientists signatories to climate
change statement
An international consortium of more than 11,000 scientists
have supported a study indicating that the Earth is facing a
climate emergency. Find out more on the Alliance of World
Scientists website or read the related NBC News article.

Fires and air quality
Fires are burning across Australia with Queensland, New
South Wales and South Australia experiencing ongoing
bushfire activity and threats since long before the end of
the spring season.
The Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC has now released
the Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for the summer
season (image below).
Air quality has been a major concern with many towns and
capital cities experiencing levels above safe thresholds for
prolonged periods.
Outcomes from COP25 in Madrid
UN Climate Change (UNFCCC) have issued a press release
summarising the outcomes, events and activities of the UN
Climate Change Conference (COP25) held in Madrid from
3–13 December 2019.
There are several websites which publish air quality
information including:
• Air Pollution in Australia: Real‑time Air Quality Index
Visual Map
• State‑based air quality monitoring sites such as:
» » NSW Government
» » ACT Government
A key outcome was the publication of the Climate Action
Pathways. The eight Climate Action Pathways not only
outline the longer‑term vision for a 1.5‑degree climate
resilient world but also set out the related transformational
actions and milestones needed to deliver the vision.
