Science & Technology Australia (STA) serves as a voice
for scientists, technologists, educators and other STEM
professionals through its 70+ member organisations. The
organisation’s mission is to bring together the STEM sector,
governments, industry and the broader community to advance
the role, reputation and impact of science and technology
across the nation.
Through your membership or affiliation with AMOS you are also
a member of STA, which means you have access to a range of
benefits and opportunities through AMOS designed to connect
you with decision makers across the country. A few of these are
highlighted below.
Science meets Parliament
This annual flagship event brings more than 240 STEM
professionals to Canberra to learn how to pitch their
science to policymakers and meet face-to-face with Federal
Parliamentarians. In its twentieth year, Science meets Parliament
will be held on 13–14 August in 2019.
The event has managed to achieve enduring relationships
between politicians and science and technology leaders;
sparking valuable policy change to the benefit of STEM
businesses; catalysing vital skills for a range of Australia’s STEM
leadership; and helping jump‐start funding and support for
important fields of research.
Be sure to look out for announcements from AMOS on how you
can apply to be one of their representative delegates.
Editor’s note: To keep up-to-date with opportunities from
STA, consider following them on Facebook, Twitter or
LinkedIn; or you can sign up to STA’s newsletter.
STEM Ambassador Program
To build on the success of Science meets Parliament, STA
is now supporting Ambassadors to connect with their
local Parliamentarians. By delivering training, facilitating
introductions and creating pathways to connect with their local
STEM community, the program is elevating the role and value
of science within the halls of Parliament and providing STEM
professionals with the chance to share local examples of STEM
success. Applications for the next cohort will open in August
2019.
Superstars of STEM
The latest cohort of Superstars of STEM has just been announced,
and STA will be supporting them to become visible role models
for the next generation of young women and girls.
You can follow them using the hashtag #SuperstarsofSTEM on
social media, and they are available for speaking opportunities
through the two years of their involvement. Applications for the
next cohort will open in late 2020.
Super STEM Communicator Workshop
Developed as part of the Superstars of STEM program,
these workshops extend our bespoke training to all STEM
professionals across Australia. These one-day workshops will
equip participants with the skills to become advocates for their
science and role models for young Australians. Email info@sta.
org.au to find out how you can be involved.
