Christoph Ruediger (Monash University) gave the final talk of
the day on techniques to sense soil moisture. He focussed on
active microwave sensors, capable of penetrating a few cm into
the ground, and noted that several European satellite missions
are being launched for this purpose. Christoph also recounted
his role in a field campaign to test microwave sensors of soil
moisture, venturing into Central Australia in 50+ degree heat.
While many themes within this exciting field were discussed, it
was clear that many more could have been added, had there
been time. Considerable thanks go to Tim Morrow and the
Melbourne AMOS team for coordinating the workshop. The
Melbourne AMOS team aims to hold a similar workshop next
October on the topic of oceanography.
