RH Clarke Lecturer (for 2017 Conference): Ian Simmonds
Ian Simmonds, Professor in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, has had a long and distinguished career and has taught and mentored many students of meteorology who have subsequently gone on to distinguished careers. He has researched the temporal variability of rainfall and soil hydrology, the development and use of climate models, the behaviour and climatic influence of Antarctic sea ice, the characteristics of synoptic systems over the Southern Hemisphere, variations and trends in snow cover over the Northern Hemisphere, and urban climates and air quality. Ian has published over 160 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and these have been cited more than 5200 times. He continues to publish a wide range of research, including 10 papers published in peer-reviewed journals in 2015.
Congratulations to all the award winners, who were presented their awards at the recent AMOS 2017 National Conference. This year the competition for each of the awards was especially strong, so we hope that nominees unsuccessful this year will, if eligible, be re-nominated next year.
