RH Clarke Lecture for the 2018 AMOS-ICSHMO Conference : Helen Cleugh
The RH Clarke Lecture is an annual invited review lecture by an expert in an aspect of meteorology or other related subjects . The lecture is generally presented at the annual conference .
Helen Cleugh is an atmospheric scientist with 30 years ’ experience in research and research leadership . Helen received her doctorate in Atmospheric Science in 1987 from the University of British Columbia , and was a lecturer at Macquarie University School of Earth Sciences in Sydney from 1987 to 1994 . She has been a research scientist with CSIRO since 1994 . Her research has quantified the interactions between the land surface and the atmosphere and their effects on weather , climate and hydrology . Helen is currently the Director of the CSIRO Climate Science Centre , bringing together CSIRO ’ s
efforts in modelling and observing the atmosphere , ocean and climate . Dr Cleugh previously led the National Environmental Science Programme ’ s Earth Systems and Climate Change Hub , a national climate research consortium between CSIRO , the Bureau of Meteorology and university partners . From 2007 she led much of the climate and atmospheric research within CSIRO , collaborating with other research providers and funders to deliver the research needed for Australia to manage the challenges and opportunities of a changing and variable climate .
