26 BAMOS Sept 2017 Reconstruction of the tornado path The Aftermath The articles in The Sydney Morning Herald of 28 March and the Australian Town and Country Journal of 4 April contained detailed accounts of locations that were struck by the tornado and I have plotted these onto a modern map of the area (Figure 4). Today’s Pacific Highway was known as Lane Cove Road back in 1906, but apart from that nearly all the other locations mentioned carry the same names as today. Local citizens, shocked at the devastation, organised a relief fund for the victims and one of the main features of this was a “Tornado Concert” that was held on 23 April at the North Sydney Masonic Hall. The path of the tornado appears to have been from the northwest to southeast, beginning near St. Leonards and extending down to Lavender Bay in close to a straight line along the North Shore Ridge.
