BAMOS June 2017 Centre updates AMOS-Q Early in 2017 The Brisbane Regional Centre of AMOS re- casted its mojo as AMOS-Q. Why, you may well ask? As an aspiration, the committee wants to ensure all AMOS members in Queensland avail themselves of our professional, social and collegiate gatherings. It means utilising communications technology wherever we can (later in the year). Importantly, be in touch — the AMOS-Q committee in 2017 are: • Michael Hewson (Chair, Central Queensland University) • Tamika Tihema (Bureau) • Katie Rosemond (Bureau) • Joshua Soderholm (University of Queensland, UQ) • Andrew Wiebe – (Katestone Pty Ltd) • Kathryn Turner (UQ) - student representative Contact anyone of us — we need to hear from you. South Australia The SA branch of AMOS is in the process of getting activities started again after a hiatus of two and a bit years. This began in August 2016 with a student night in a local tavern, at which four students from local universities made 20 minute presentations. The next event was the AGM in November, held at the SA Research and Development Institute (SARDI) marine science facility at West Beach. There was also a scientific program associated with this event, that centred on the 28 September severe weather event experienced in SA. The committee that was established at the AGM is • Murray Hamilton (Chair, University of Adelaide, U of A) • Bronwyn Dolman (ATRAD Pty Ltd) • Caecilia Ewenz (Flinders University) • Jochen Kaempf (Flinders University) • Charles James (SARDI) • John Nairn (Bureau) • Andrew MacKinnon (U of A) The first activity for 2017 was on the 1 May with a scientific presentation at the Bureau offices by Dr Andrew Klekociuk (Australian Antarctic Division) and Murray Hamilton (U of A) on current Southern Ocean cloud physics campaigns. Events planned for later in 2017 (none with a date set though) are: • Scientific talk on stable isotopes of oxygen in rainwater (Jonathan Tyler, U of A) • Student presentations • Annual General Meeting 11
