We are now almost into the second month of the new year and though 2021 started on shaky ground , there is much to look forward to within our community .
For one , I am delighted to be back as BAMOS Editor . Many thanks to Belinda Campbell as outgoing Editor — and a huge thank you for staying on as an Assistant Editor . 15 2019 / 20 bushfire weather ( a cartoon ) 16 The flight of Tango Victor Charlie 18 BAMOS Flashback : 2002
One of my favourite things about AMOS is how the friendships and collaborations amongst our members form such a strong base for our society .
This is usually reinforced every year at the AMOS conference . However , our 2021 conference will be online this year — for the first time ever — as the uncertainty around COVID-19 remains . 19 Charts of the Past with Blair Trewin 20 Seasonal Snaps 23 Calendar 25 JSHESS contents
Though we may miss meeting and supporting each other in person , our tireless AMOS 2021 convenors have pulled together an exciting program that promises to be just as enriching and informative as any other year .
In this issue of BAMOS we catch up on the happenings of spring 2020 .
We now have a new AMOS Award : the Penny Whetton Memorial Lecture . Dick Whitaker has written two intriguing historical pieces relating to Australian weather history .
Terry Hart looks to an issue of a past BAMOS with his ' Flashback ' piece on February 2002 . And I look at the subject that won an international ocean photography prize : two small embracing penguins gazing at the Melbourne night lights .
As always , please consider contributing to the next BAMOS . Especially if you take any photos of the weather ! Please send any contributions or suggestions to me at bamos @ amos . org . au .
I hope you enjoy this end of 2020 issue . And see you at AMOS 2021 : Science for Impact soon !
