doorway, Clarence and Alice watched as Harley reached the person, who grabbed the dog’s neck. He could see Harley and the bright yellow raincoat bobbing up and down.
“That’s Henry!” Clarence recognized the boy he had seen jumping rope. “That must be Mari yelling for help!”
Simon swam to Harley and Henry, wrapped the life jacket around Henry and swam back.
“Harley!” Clarence was scared. Harley’s head went under the water, but Simon was busy rescuing Henry.
“Harley’s in trouble!” Clarence heard himself yell. “Somebody help Harley!”
The men on the bank pulled Simon and Henry out of the water.
Frank removed the life jacket from Henry, picked him up, and ran towards the barber shop through the blades of rain. Frank rushed in, placed Henry on the sofa, and ran to the closet. Henry was shivering. He stared at everyone, looking dazed. Mari ran inside and hugged Henry for a long time. Clarence wanted to help, but didn’t know what to do, so he stood awkwardly still and moved his hands behind his back.
“Clarence, help me wrap these blankets around these kids,” Frank said . “They’re going to be okay.”
