From the climbs of Pretoria to the coastline of Durban, the Balwin Run Series continues to deliver unforgettable racing moments.
On 22 February, 8 000 runners lined up at the Pretoria Boys Old Boys Club to take on one of the country’ s most demanding routes. From the opening ascent up Waterkloof Hill to the relentless Klapperkop climb, the race tested every ounce of grit before rewarding runners with sweeping views and a fast, exhilarating finish.
But beyond the challenge, the spirit of the series truly stood out. Eight amputees completed the 5km, a powerful reminder that movement is a gift. Their courage captured the essence of inclusion, that everyone belongs, and anything is possible.
The energy carried through to Durban, where a sold-out coastal run along the M4 delivered a completely different kind of magic. A spectacular sunrise greeted runners across all distances, from Ballito, Sibaya, Virginia and the Promenade, setting the tone for a vibrant, community-driven day.
From elite athletes chasing qualifiers to first-timers and families on the move, it was a celebration of connection, Dolphin Coast Striders hospitality, and the unmatched beauty of KwaZulu-Natal.
