A Day of Colour, Courage, and Community: The Breast Intentions Colour Run at Thaba Eco Village
On 27 September, the Thaba Eco Village Doggy Park transformed into a vibrant sea of colour, laughter, and heartfelt purpose as the Breast Intentions Colour Run took centre stage.
This wasn’ t just another fun run, it was a powerful movement aimed at raising awareness and funds for early breast cancer detection. With a goal to fund 100 mammograms, the event brought together a passionate community of runners, walkers, sponsors, and supporters, all united by a shared mission: to save lives through early diagnosis.
Before the first step was taken, the event had already made a significant impact, thanks to Netcare, who generously donated 30 mammograms to kickstart the day. Their contribution set the tone for what would become a truly memorable and meaningful experience.
As the sun climbed higher, the excitement reached new heights with a live outside broadcast from 5FM. The music, the voices, and the buzz from the station added a dynamic energy that had everyone dancing, laughing, and connecting. It was the perfect way to build anticipation before the run officially began.
But even before the starting gun fired, the fun had already begun. Clouds of coloured powder filled the air, coating everyone in pinks, blues, yellows, and greens. The powder stations were a hit, with participants eagerly diving into the vibrant chaos. The starting line was a spectacle of colour and joy, and when the fire extinguisher blasted pink powder to signal the beginning of the walk, the crowd erupted in cheers.
The 4.8km course, expertly designed by Thaba Trails, wound through the scenic beauty of the eco village. Every 300 metres, participants encountered a new colour station, each one adding another layer to their rainbow transformation. By the end of the route, everyone was a walking canvas of celebration and solidarity.
Along the way, laughter echoed through the trees. But beneath the joy was a deeper purpose, every step taken was a tribute to those who have battled breast cancer, a show of support for those currently fighting, and a commitment to helping others through early detection.
Food vendors added another layer of delight to the day. From gourmet bites to comfort food favourites, there was something for everyone. Amici served up delicious pizza’ s, Just Darling brought sweet treats, coffee and charm, Chip n Dip satisfied cravings with their classic chip offerings, and Love Food added a wholesome touch through burgers and Prego’ s.
