After settling in , take a westward stroll along the Inner Harbor . On your journey you ’ ll find Mr . Trash Wheel , a solar-powered trash interceptor that collects debris from the water so it doesn ’ t end up in landfills . Continue on and you ’ ll see another planet-friendly initiative : Harbor Wetland . This outdoor exhibition from the National Aquarium immerses visitors in a re-created salt marsh habitat — just like those that naturally occurred in this area hundreds of years ago — that aims to improve the health of our waterways .
Now , head across the harbor on the Baltimore Water Taxi . Not only is it a car-free way to get around , but you ’ ll enjoy sweeping city views and stops at Baltimore ’ s most popular sites , including the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine . The fort inspired Francis Scott Key to write “ The Star-Spangled Banner ” during the War of 1812 and has expansive grounds worth exploring , including a grove of cherry blossoms that flower each spring .
From there , head north on the Charm City Circulator , a free , low-emission bus with more than 100 stops along five routes . Get dinner in Station North , where you have your pick of restaurants led by James Beard Award semi-finalists . At Foraged , chef-owner Chris Amendola offers a hyper-seasonal menu that uses ingredients either carefully foraged or sustainably sourced from farms in the region . Next door , Alma Cocina Latina is serving up lively creations inside the stunning Venezuelan restaurant that ’ s packed with palms , pothos and ferns — a plant-lover ’ s paradise .
