You can experience three continents in just one afternoon by exploring southeast Baltimore . Start with Fort McHenry , which houses a museum that details the fort ’ s history as well as the lives of the people who once fought there . The National Park is also home to two Yoshino cherry tree groves that bloom in the spring and paint the fort pink for several weeks . Plus , a lack of crowds means you can spend a couple of hours lounging under the blossoms with a blanket , a book or a picnic basket .
From there , take the Water Taxi to charming Fell ’ s Point to walk the same Belgian block streets as those who founded the neighborhood in the 18th century . Wander in and out of the shops on Broadway and Thames Street and take in the historic rowhomes — the neighborhood is a National Register Historic District .
Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower

Whether you ’ re craving Italian architecture or cuisine , Downtown has you covered .
Modeled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence , Italy , the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower was the tallest building in Baltimore when it debuted in 1911 . Though its height has since been surpassed by other buildings , the Bromo Tower is now a pillar of Charm City ’ s creative community and provides local artists with studio and gallery spaces . It also houses the largest collection of Bromo Seltzer and Maryland Glass bottles in existence .

Get a feel for a journey to Asia with a visit to the Patterson Park Observatory . Completed in 1892 , the Observatory reflects the Gilded Age ’ s interest in Asian architecture and is colloquially referred to by locals as the pagoda .
Ready for a bite to eat ? Head to Little Italy , a closeknit neighborhood lined with authentic Italian cafes and restaurants . Sabatino ’ s has been a local favorite since 1955 for its traditional Italian fare like veal saltimbocca and shrimp fra diavolo served in a casual atmosphere . For dessert , you can ’ t miss Vaccaro ’ s Italian Pastry for cannoli , gelato and biscotti .
