I was born into Baltimore, not just the place, but the layers beneath it. The kind you only understand if you grow up here, leave for a while and realize the city never really lets you go. Baltimore wasn’ t just where I was from; it was the steady background hum to everything I became.
One of the moments that forever sealed my love for this city happened in the winter of 2015. My wife and I were married at the historic Belvedere Hotel, a Baltimore landmark that feels like it’ s holding a thousand stories at once. As we danced our first dance in the first-floor ballroom, snow began to fall outside. It was quiet, gentle and almost unreal. Anyone who’ s lived here knows nothing is more magical than Baltimore in a snowstorm. The city softens. The noise fades.
Brick rowhomes glow. For a moment, Baltimore shows you its tenderness, and it stays with you.
When people challenge what they think they know about Baltimore, I don’ t argue with stereotypes or headlines. I will tell them about snowfall during the first dance. About neighbors who feel like family. About crowded clubs filled with local bands and people who believe in them. Baltimore’ s B-side isn’ t hidden; it’ s just deeper, warmer and more human. This city has grit, yes, but it also has grace, creativity, loyalty and heart. I’ m proud to be from Baltimore. I’ m proud to have built a life here. I’ m proud to share the side of the city that raised me, shaped me and still feels unmistakably like home.”
