Maryland’ s America: 250 Years of American History Through Marylander Eyes
The Star-Spangled Banner Flag House THROUGH JULY 30, 2028
Just in time for America’ s 250th anniversary, this exhibition explores Maryland’ s outsized role in shaping the nation through the eyes of eight artists representing communities across the state. After sailing aboard the Pride of Baltimore II to the very spot where Francis Scott Key watched Fort McHenry’ s bombardment and wrote“ The Star-Spangled Banner,” the artists created this layered reflection on democracy, heritage and Maryland’ s contributions to American history.

For centuries, the world’ s most coveted luxury goods were made from kingfisher feathers, tortoise shell, rhinoceros horn and elephant ivory.“ Luxury & Loss” showcases stunning examples of each material while tracing why all four were eventually banned from artwork use in the 20th century. Equally beautiful and unsettling, these objects reflect the human desire to capture wild animals’ beauty and power.

New permanent displays at 916 Lemmon Street trace Irish immigrant life through work, community and activism. Explore men’ s labor and rise to political influence, women’ s diverse roles and advocacy, and the social importance of public markets and pubs as hubs for connection, culture and organizing across generations in Baltimore.“ Built on Grit” is the first stage in the Irish American Museum’ s long-term transformation plan, which involves expanding into 910, 912 and 914 Lemmon Street and creating a genealogy library and multipurpose room for the community.
Diedrick Brackens: lights at the end of the world
Baltimore Museum of Art NOV. 8, 2026- MARCH 2027
Texas-born artist Diedrick Brackens’ work weaves together history, identity and allegory— literally. His large-scale set of handwoven tapestries explore emancipation, labor and perseverance through imagery rooted in the Black and queer experiences around the Chesapeake Bay during the late 19th century— lighthouses, wild horses, marine life and domestic sanctuary.
200th Anniversary Campus Transformation
National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation OPENING JANUARY 2027
As railroading approaches its 200th anniversary, the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation( formerly the B & O Railroad Museum) is marking the occasion with a major transformation. The restored South Car Works building— the oldest continuously operating railroad repair facility in the nation— serves as the museum’ s reimagined front entrance while inside, the new Innovation Hall explores the present and future of American railroading alongside the museum’ s world-class artifact collection. Stay tuned for special events throughout the year celebrating the milestone, including a time capsule reveal and a LEGO recreation of the 1927 Fair of the Iron Horse.
