CHENIRE CARTER
“ Turning space into place is basically what I do,” says Chenire Carter, assistant vice president of community and experiences at MAG Partners. Carter is referring to her role on a team that has been transforming vacant land in South Baltimore into a thriving new neighborhood: The Baltimore Peninsula. She’ s focused on how this reimagined space, which now includes a hotel, park space, restaurants and residences, can become a place where people make memories.

IN BALTIMORE
In the morning, Carter can be found meditating, listening to music or journaling in the Peninsula’ s South Point park or at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, both of which boast green spaces and stunning water views. She then travels to the Baltimore Farmer’ s Market under the Jones Falls Expressway to support local artisans. She also enjoys fancy brunches with her friends— complete with cocktail dresses just because— at Rye Street Tavern, Limoncello or Yebo( she also loves a good drag brunch at The Manor!). At night, Carter likes to attend Candlelight concerts and Art After Dark events at the Baltimore Museum of Art.
For overnight stays, Carter likes ROOST Baltimore for its homey comfort and robust amenities. For a North Baltimore option, Carter recommends a stay at The Study. Enjoy a cozy dinner at the onsite restaurant, Dear Charles, then curl up with a book in The Living Room at the hotel.
With a background in teaching and nonprofit development, Carter has a personal connection to her current role— she grew up in nearby Cherry Hill, where her parents and her oldest son still live. Worried about gentrification and the potential of rising costs in her old neighborhood, Carter began learning more about the Peninsula’ s development and sharing it with her community.“ I fell in love with being a liaison,” she says. Now, Carter’ s community work supports six surrounding neighborhoods, including Cherry Hill.
