Passion and Purpose : Voices of Maryland ’ s Civil Rights Activists Maryland Center for History and Culture PERMANENT EXHIBITION
Marylanders have long been at the forefront of the national Black freedom struggle , from filing lawsuits that revealed the lies of the “ separate but equal ” doctrine in the 1930s and ’ 40s to leading massive protests in the 1960s . Passion and Purpose shows how this legacy persists today with oral histories and photographs that link the past to the present — offering personal perspectives from activists contributing to the ongoing fight for civil rights across Maryland and the United States . The exhibition also shares oral histories collected by Baltimore City high school students in the 2000s and recordings from the 2015 Baltimore Uprising .
