Undoubtedly the most picturesque
wintertime shooting location and
adrenaline-rushed chase scene in
the history of the Bond series, the
setting of Spectre (2015) attracts
film and ski addicts from around
the globe. The only way to get to
the location, atop the 3048-metre
Gaislachkogl mountain, is by cable
car. The ultra-modern panoramic
gondolas – the same ones that
carried the movie characters – take
you up to the top in 12 minutes.
There, the angles of the concrete-
steel-glass building designed by
Johann Obermoser and surrounded
by a blindingly white panorama
bump up against the mountain
while the world of James Bond
awaits interactive discovery in a
two-level, ten-room exhibition.
Each section is dedicated to a
particular step in the making of
Spectre, and a special section pays
homage to the history of all 24
007 films. With high-tech installa-
tions, multi-sensory experiences,
and a layout that resembles the set
of the original movie, you don’t feel
like an ordinary spectator but more
like a real protagonist. Tickle your
nerves with an outstanding, vertigi-
nous view of the Ötztal Alps from an
angled glass wall, or learn about the
secret agent’s high-tech curiosities
in the Tech Lab and visit the back-
stage of various special effects.
Remember the ice-cold atmo-
sphere of the medical clinic where
the characters played by Daniel
Craig and Lea Seydoux met? Reality
offers something more tempting: the
gourmet Ice Q restaurant with capti-
vating futuristic vibes housed within
a glass cube of a space surrounded
by snowy peaks. We bet it will be-
come the highest place you’ve ever
ordered a warm drink on a terrace.
Keep in mind that you’re enjoying
one of the finest skiing resorts in
Europe: once you’ve reached the
top, don’t miss the chance of skiing
down some of the 145 kilometres of
slopes in elegant, secret-agent style.
