This was where she first became acquainted with photography from a theoretical perspective. Her father was also a photographer in his college days, and she grew up around photography. Later, Freitas mastered new media design and started out as a designer with a camera. However, she quickly realised that she got many more content projects from Instagram than from her work as a freelance graphic designer. Freitas is now 28 years old. My secret spot ‘My secret spot is not difficult to access. But for some inexplicable reason, it has remained unknown to almost everyone, including locals. The special view of the bridge gives Lisbon an authentic feel, and it’s the twin of San Fran- cisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. ‘Find the roundabout that connects Rua Gil Vicente and Calçada de Santo Amaro in Alcântara. There you’ll notice a circular chapel that seems to have no entrance. It’s called the Santo Amaro Chapel. Go around it, and you’ll be wowed by a privileged view of the bridge and a beautiful patterned mosaic floor made of traditional Portuguese pavement stones. The chapel is quite beauti- ful inside and very different from other chapels in Portugal.’ 36 / airBaltic.com Portas do Sol viewpoint Other locations to check out: • Jardim do Torel – relatively tourist-free and one of the best landscapes in town. • Portas do Sol viewpoint – overlooks the river and the rooftops of Alfama. • Panorâmico de Monsanto viewpoint – an abandoned restaurant building with a fantastic view.
