THE DEPTHS OF COLOMBO'S NIGHT LIFE December 2016 - January 2017 25 Dunhinda Ella & Mini Dunhinda Falls Dunhinda Ella is one of the most enchanting falls in Sri Lanka and one of the most popular among the tourists, both locals and foreigners. One needs to go along Badulla- Mahiyangana Road for about 6km to find the visitor centre to the right. From there it’s a walk about 1.5km through a well-maintained footpath to the falls where there’s a viewing platform. Along the way, you’ll also see her young sister, Dunhinda Mini Falls in the distance and far below the footpath. Unfortunately getting closer to her is simply not possible due to the steepness of the valley she’s located and the thick forest patch. The top of the falls with the Badulu Oya feeding her can be seen about 200- 300m into the footpath. Originated from the BaduluOya, Dunhinda falls down nearly 200ft to the rocky base pool creating a cloud of water vapour thus giving this breath-taking waterfall her name, Dunhinda. This is one of the most attractive falls as well and visited by hundreds and thousands of people annually. Ideal time to visit is from Dec to Feb after the monsoon but as the whole BaduluOya Falls making this waterfall, one will find enough water to satisfy their eyes throughout the year. www.ballysmagazine.com
