THE DEPTHS OF COLOMBO'S NIGHT LIFE December 2016 - January 2017 9 My next culinary experience was trying street snacks such as Kotthu, cutlets, samosas, vadai and many others depending on the regional varying ingredients, which were found mainly on the streets of the major cities. They give you the opportunity to try the local flavours and is much more interesting than visiting local restaurants. This is not a surprise to anyone, but the most enjoyable experience was when we tried home cooked meals which were traditionally and lovingly prepared. Like in many countries, in Sri Lanka every mother passes her daughter the secret family recipes and traditions. I wanted to learn how to prepare some of local home cooked meals and luckily, I had such an opportunity as I was able a visit to the local market and prepare the meal from scratch. I learnt to cook dhal curry, chicken curry, vegetable cutlets, pol sambol and coconut pancakes. www.ballysmagazine.com
