PYOGENIC GRANULOMA
A pyogenic granuloma is an extremely common vascular growth that
presents as a shiny red mass. It affects both sexes and occurs mostly in
children and young adults but may present at any time. It usually results
from trauma but most patients have no recollection of the injury.
Lesions start as a small red, brownish-red dot and grows rapidly over a
period of a few days to weeks. It develops into a red or purple moist
nodule, which can grow up to 2 cm in size. Recurrent bleeding is a
characteristic and sometimes the whole lesion may fall off and grow back.
Pyogenic granulomas commonly occur on the fingers, around the nails, on
the face and in the scalp.
