SPOTLIGHT ON GIVING
Global Down Syndrome
Foundation
The Global Down Syndrome Foundation is committed
solely to raising funds for research and medical care
for people with Down syndrome. Dominic Capuano,
a Financial Advisor in Denver, and his wife Carol first
got involved with the organization when their
daughter Clarissa was born with the genetic
condition eight years ago.
Denver, CO
For years the Capuano family attended the
organization’s major fundraiser, and two years ago,
Dominic took a lead role on the event committee for
the 2015 Be Beautiful Be Yourself fashion show. Baird
Foundation, along with Dominic’s branch office and his
colleagues came together to provide funding in support of
the event.
Clarissa was named the 2015 Ambassador for the Global Down
Syndrome Foundation and Dominic couldn’t be more proud. “Baird
has helped us fund the scientific research so important to helping people
with Down syndrome live happy and productive lives. I’m grateful for the
support, and so is my family.”
Over the Edge for Hattie Larlham
Now in its second year, Over the Edge for Hattie Larlham gave thrill-seekers and fundraisers the
opportunity to rappel 22 stories down a building in Akron, Ohio. The catch? Participants had to
raise at least $1,500 in order to make the controlled descent to the stable ground below.
Hattie Larlham is a nonprofit organization that provides medical, residential, recreational and
work-training services to children and adults with developmental disabilities. The organization has
been in existence since 1961 and continues to provide assistance to its 1,500 members.
Joe Kraft, Senior Investment Consultant located in Cleveland, Ohio, serves on the Hattie
Larlham board and knows firsthand how the organization can benefit others. “Having a
family connection to children with special needs, I have been touched by caregivers who
change the lives of those with disabilities. Being on the board gives me the chance
to offer hands-on assistance to an organization with this very focus. As amazing as
it was to rappel from the roof of a downtown office building, I am even more
overwhelmed by the generous hearts of my fellow Baird associates as they
supported me, Hattie Larlham and those it serves.”
