7 _ WE WILL SURVIVE Ghaith Mohammed Sculpture with digital prints
The hand gesture of a V-sign can have different meanings depending on circumstances and where and how it is presented . The V-sign for Ghaith Mohammed connotes victory , but a questionable . His v-hand sign crowned his three-armed iron sculpture showcasing digital prints of his 60 portrait paintings , which he created during a specific period , a very special time in his life . For the first time , he experienced the sense of community , solidarity , equality , connectivity and understanding , in a place where people from different ages , genders , classes , ethnics and mindsets were gathering to stand up for their rights together . His painterly portraits are moments of thinking , feeling , questioning , something what he received from other people or what he simply needed to express in this special moment . We see a victim of abduction , random killing , faseliye , bullying or someone left behind . We see a peaceful person who got hurt by the society , domestic violence and many more grievances and abuses the Iraqi society is facing .
His V-sign on top of the sculpture symbolizes the authority who is in power at the cost of human suffering represented by his painterly portraits . His portraits are wrapped in nylon . Nylon represents a kind of captivity and is sprayed with the colour pink . Pink for him is a sign that there is still the hope for a change .
