Our Soul Song is composed of the things in our life that are integral to who we are as a per- son. These are the things that have to be happening in our life no matter what else is going on around us. I call these things the Non-Negotiables of life. Each of these non-negotiables represents a note of our Soul Song. For me, these include my family, being physically active, daily interaction with dragons and my Spirit guides, being in nature, mentoring, and so on. Think about your favorite song. One of mine right now is Some- thing Wild by Lindsey Stirling. She plays a stunning violin in this song. It gets me up and dancing and drumming on my desk every time I listen to it. But what happens if she were to miss a note or even play the wrong notes in part or all of the song? The whole thing would feel very discordant and I certainly wouldn’t be up and dancing to the music. Listening to these discordant notes is what happens when we work on our business. When we are working in our business, it is filled with ease, joy, and clarity. It is like closing our eyes and listening to our favorite music, getting lost in the sounds and emotions. It brings a smile to our face and dancing into our spirits. This is what happens when we weave our Soul Song into our business. One of my favorite ways to empower clients in identifying the notes of their Soul Song is to have them write in a journal. At the end of the day, take some time to reflect. Write down the things that made you smile, the things that had you sitting back and taking a deep breath, the things that made you want to yell Yes! to the world. Also write down the things that you didn’t like. The things that made you feel frustrated, crummy, or just plain mad. For me I identify these as the things that leave that yucky feeling in the pit of my stomach. Every day you journal, you are gathering information about your Soul Song. Your own notes and those sneaky discor- dant notes. When we weave the notes of our Soul Song into our business it feels like coming home. There is a clarity, focus, ease, and joy that is magic. This is how it feels when we are working in our business. Like coming home.  About the Author Stephanie Smart is a Soul Song mentor, energy medicine practitioner/teacher, and a spiritual director.
