About the Author
Remember how it feels to sit in front of the fire place with a mug of hot cocoa , listening to the rain and Ben Howard .
4 . Write everything down . On a scrap of paper . On receipt . On a napkin . Write down the song that got stuck in your head the whole tube ride home . Write down the way you felt when you saw the sunset the first day autumn was in the air . One day you ’ ll find your sketchbooks of doodles and your journal of words and smile .
5 . Be passionate about everything you do . Realize that life isn ’ t meant to be a 9 to 5 job . Life should be composed of seconds and minutes and hours and days and weeks and months and years that reflect who you are and what you stand for . So , stand for love and justice and margarita Mondays .
6 . Realize that time stops for no one ( especially not you ). While you ’ re getting older , so are your parents .
And your plants -they ’ re probably dying too .
7 . Recognize the beauty in imperfect moments . Learn to appreciate the loveliness in an unmade bed . The humour in missing your bus by 10 seconds . The fragility of your soul when you experience your first heartbreak and how vulnerable you become when you give yourself to someone else . The memories held within chipped paint on your walls and scuffs on the floors . The magnificence in smeared mascara and messy hair in the morning . Understand that some of the most delicate ( and lovely ) moments are composed of imperfect elements .
8 . Slow it down . Go back to bed and spend five more minutes with your lover . Take a deep breath and savor the sweet little moments you won ’ t get again . Take it all in- the way the rain hits your window perfectly , the stream of light that hits your pillow just right , the galaxies that
form in the gutter after a storm .
9 . Be selfish with your time . Life doesn ’ t promise you anything , especially not time . Quit wasting your precious time doing things that make you anything but ridiculously happy .
10 . Stop waiting ( for the weekend or for Summer or for your job promotion or for that guy to like you ) to be happy . If you ’ re not happy , fix it . Isn ’ t that the reason you want a guy in the first place ? To be happy ? You know what I say ? Fuck that . Go find happiness on your own , because I promise it doesn ’ t lie within a guy . True happiness is something that can only come from within .
