CAN A TRIP TO CHICAGO REALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE ?
The answer is oh hell yes ! In July , the Badassery Mag team hit the road and headed to the Windy City . While I was excited to experience a new place full of really tall old buildings , I had no idea this trip would literally change the way the grey matter functioned in my skull . I didn ’ t know this trip would shift the way my soul leaned into things and change the very fabric of my mental make-up , but it did just that .
How did this all happen ? By saying a lot of yeses . The first yes came way back in January when I finally said yes to Kathy ’ s genius idea . She had been dropping not subtle hints that Badassery should write a book for months . The impostor syndrome lurking inside me like an crumpled sock at the bottom of my shoe said , “ Not right now . We are not big enough or special enough ”.
Luckily I have an amazing business partner and eventually she beat out that impostor syndrome and the yes won ! The second yes that lead up to Chicago came in the form of a giant named Tony Robbins and his Unleash the Power Within Event . I saw that a group of women were going and I knew I had to go .
I was at the park with my kids and signed up on the spot . Basically it was an out of body experience and I just hit go . Then I called up a biz bestie and she hit go . Then I slacked Kathy and a few days later she also hit go .
Sometimes the stars really do align when you decide to do scary things because the next thing I knew we were planning our book launch party for Chicago before we went to see the jolly-not-so-green-giant man .
As you can see inside this month ’ s issue , our book release party was a smashing success and now we are headed to LA to meet even more incredible women . That party really shifted things for me . Women , it ’ s time to connect ! It ’ s time to inspire and lift each other up . Lean in hard to those in real life events and have some fun . People are waiting to hear from you !
When I say this trip shifted things , I mean it really told that impostor syndrome inside of me to sit the hell down . We are really doing this and people really do want to hear what we have to say . It ’ s a beautiful thing when your passions align and fireworks explode . It ’ s like the ending scene of a romcom . It ’ s a glitter champagne bottle with all your soul sisters good .
Oh yes , you are probably wondering about that giant man . Yes , Tony Robbins completely broke me down and built me back up . I will never even see the world with the same pair of eyes . It ’ s as if my retinas were exchanged and I see magic in everything . I giggled at the wonder of flying above the clouds on my plane trip home . Even the crappy airport waiter made my day .
I ’ d love to break down exactly what Tony did , but you really have to drink the kool-aid for yourself . Was it walking on fire ? Was it that guy named Adam who broke down my comfort zone by sitting next to me ? Tony forces you to talk to strangers and trust me , I am the first to put up my stranger danger wall .
All I can say is I stopped thinking about bringing in thousands of dollars and started thinking millions . Dare I say billions ? I dare ! I realized that the things that mattered the most to me were sitting next to me in that row and at home in Utah . I realized that I have a duty to my daughter and the whole generation of women behind me to keep standing tall and making sure the path stays worn down for them to pass more easily .
I realized that I can walk on fucking really hot fire and not get burned . I realized that my role here in the world is fierce and I ’ m not going anywhere . Most of all I realized who I was .
It ’ s crazy how a shift in your world can turn things completely into miracles . You are a miracle . Badassery is a miracle . The world is miracle . Go out and live it . Just say yes to you !
