The course , which undoubtedly will catch the eyes of officials for any tournament eying a New Orleans area , will challenge everyone from the most experienced professional to the freshest of amateurs , all while making them feel like there ’ s a fighting chance at a good round . Long also noted the vibe that the new course emits , between the new amenities and the ancient trees that dot the course .
“ From all of the walks I ’ ve taken around the facility , it looks to be pretty fair , but also a good challenge if you want it ,” Long said . “ I think Rees Jones has done a really good job of designing a facility that ’ s appealing to the eye and looks like a new course , but also has a rustic feeling that makes it feel like it ’ s been here for 100 years because of the old oak trees and the water features .”
Barousse still knows that some players will attempt to outplay the course , including a few he ’ s familiar with .
“ I think it ’ s gonna be a great test . I have a lot of friends who want to hit the ball far , so I think they ’ ll play the back tees once and never play them again .”
The golfing community that City Park has built and nurtured since the early 20th century , has become an identity for its denizens and patrons . Now , that identity will get an image boost , and perhaps a new era that many will call “ The Glory Days .”
