My son , Gabriel Augustin Wartelle , is 11 years old . I write this from the viewpoint of his coach . Gabriel has a passion for the game of golf . He started playing when he could walk as he would mimic me when I would swing a club . So much so that although he is right-handed , he plays golf left-handed . He practices nearly everyday with a determination to continue to excel at the sport he loves . Gabriel is self motivated , which is important as I see too many golf parents try to force their child into achievement . He is a student of the game and loves reading about the science of golf from authors such as Ben Hogan and Dave Peltz . At 11 years old , he already knows the dynamics of the golf swing and impact position .
On the competitive side , Gabriel has achieved success on the US Kids Tour ( 2016 10-year-old boy ’ s tour champion ), US Kids Texas Open Participant , and he is currently the points leader of the 9-11 year old boy ’ s USSSA Tour . Gabriel has been fortunate to have the opportunity to play golf or visit great golf venues all over the world including Royal Aberdeen , Carnoustie , St . Andrews ( Scotland ), the British Open , golf in France , China , and many courses in the USA .
Gabriel also participates in multiple sports , notably cross country . He loves music and is learning several instruments . He is a member of the TAT ( talent and acting ) group at his school . Gabriel is also involved in scouting . He does all these activities while maintaining a high grade point average at Audubon Charter School . He speaks multiple languages and is a citizen of France and the USA .
As his poppa , my proudest moment has been when parents and tour organizers have complemented Gabriel on his on course demeanor and sportsmanship . He is truly an exceptional young man and son . Guiding him and watching him grow has been a true gift to my life . We have a great deal of fun , which is one of the most important building blocks to his golfing future . gabriel wartelle
