With first round action being conducted at BREC’s Beaver Creek, the tournament concluded at Webb Memorial Golf Course for boys and girls divisions ranging in age from 7 to 17. In the 7 to 11 year old boys division, 10-year old Drew Silman of Zachary shot 9 hole scores of 47 and 40 to beat out 11-year old Evan Luu, a student at St. George, by 4 shots for the top spot. In the girls division of the 7- to 11-year-old class, Kate Daniel scorched it with a two day total of 56 and 50 to take first place over Sophia Macias who finished second with a 125 total. Connor Broome turned in a 96 and 95 to take the second place award while Teagan Richards of Baton Rouge finished two shots behind Broome for third. In the 15 to 17 year old boys round, Andrew Bennett of Zachary dominated as his younger brother Kyle did. With scores of 77 and 76 that saw Beaver Creek and Webb Golf Course playing long and tough, Bennett outlasted the field with long and straight drives while also managing control of his short game and putting. Only Cross Marchand, a Catholic High golfer, managed to stay within hailing distance with scores of 78 and 80, followed by Peyton Canter who finished with a two day total of 163. Bennett said, “I managed to make par when it counted and didn’t have too many big numbers that would have hurt me.” Bennett, a student at Zachary High, will be around for a few more years to defend his title, as he is a young 15 years old. In the girls 15-17 division, Anna Heine has been a dynasty. In a five-peat, she took the title once again with scores of 75 both days. Kylie O’Brien, a young 14-year-old talent from Zachary, finished second with scores of 91 and 89. Heine has continued to be the highlight of the girl’s division, even playing one year from the boys tees to compete against them for their title as well.
