Quail Hollow – at Percy Quin
by Connor Raborn
On the edge of Percy Quin State Park in
McComb, Mississippi, lies a golf course that
offers its guests an escape to nature along with
its 18 holes.
Quail Hollow Golf Course opened in 1996
under the design of landscape architect Arthur
Hills, and hills indeed abound on this course.
Pines, lakes and its undulating terrain are the
defining characteristics of Quail Hollow.
“A lot of people that come up here from
Louisiana where it’s more flat land, they get
up here, and they see the hills that you don’t
typically get further south,” said Jeff Trecost,
head golf professional at Quail Hollow.
“That’s one of the unique characters here
that you don’t get at a lot of courses in the
southern areas.”
The state of Mississippi owns the golf
course, which weighs in at 6,700 yards and
has a USGA rating of 72 and slope rating of
121. Trecost began his position at the course
on Jan. 1 earlier this year after the state
contacted him about the job.
Trecost has 15 years of experience in the
golf business, having helped with the opening
of the golf course at Carter Plantation in
