Daniel and Johnson take honors at US Women’s 4-Ball Sectional Qualifier Julia Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Abbey Daniel of Covington, Louisiana, fired a seven-under par 65 to earn medalist honors at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier at Money Hill Golf & Country Club on Thursday. Johnson, an Ole Miss Women’s golf commit, is the reigning Louisiana Women’s Amateur Champion, and Daniel is the reigning Louisiana Girls’ Junior Amateur Champion. The “young guns” now set their sights on national aspirations as they advance to the 2nd U.S. Women’s Amateur FourBall Championship at the Streamsong Resort in Florida May 21-25. Johnson started their round with a par at the par 5 1st hole which was playing 454 yards on Thursday. Daniel made another par at the par 4 2nd hole and then added the team’s first birdie at the par 5 3rd hole. Johnson added a par on the par 3 3rd hole then another birdie at the par 4 5th hole. Back-to-back pars contributed by Johnson and Daniel on holes 6 and 7 were followed by a birdie-par combo by Johnson on the par 3 8th and the par 4 9th. The team made the turn at threeunder par 33. Johnson got off to a blistering start on the back nine, making three consecutive birdies. She made a par on the par 4 13th hole, then contributed the last birdie for the team at the par 3 14th. Johnson capped off the round with more solid play and four straight pars. Their back nine total of 32 put the South Louisiana duo safely into the championship at seven-under par 65.
