editor’s letter I made a promise to readers when I first started this publication that I would learn to play golf. Well, I’m here to change that promise. I absolutely love the game. I love watching the game, I love being outside. I can’t wait to caddy for Jake at any opportunity. Seriously, it feels like I’m the one in competition. But. I. Don’t. Like. Playing. There. I said it. I am the editor of a golf magazine, and I don’t like swinging a club. I love watching it on television and enjoy every aspect of this publication. I love everything about golf. I just don’t play. I tried. I let Jake analyze my swing, and I played several holes. I couldn’t wait to get back in the cart. What I have done in the last year though is realize that I have a very empty nest and have returned to my first love of sewing. Yep, completely girlie and old school, but golf is old school too. I think Jake and I are just a couple of old souls who enjoy traditional activities and those folks who surround them. Hanging out with my great-grandmother who taught me everything I know about everything was spectacular. I didn’t lose her until I was almost 21 years old, and I can seriously say that she is still one of the most influential people in my life, if not the most influential. And the same goes for golf. This holiday season, thank the old soul who saved yours. These traditional activities bond generations in a manner that is as old as the activities themselves. We’re celebrating the Christmas season in this month’s issue. We’ve sprinkled some recipes throughout this magazine, especially in our article about BeBe Anderson, a small-town girl with a big punch in the kitchen. She’s already getting some national attention and looking to go to culinary school – for her high school studies. Our 20-year-olds still have careers-of-the-month. Also, lean on the Higgs family to show us how to take down the calories in a holiday favorite. Scott and Carrie, our resident physical therapists give us some ideas on decal’ing the green bean casserole. Yum! Next month, we’re putting out a call for the juniors and man and woman of the year. Send us your golfer nominations. We’re ready to make some decisions here at Backspin and feature those folks in our January issue. We look forward to reading about your favorite people. Merry Christmas! Amber 7
