Amateurs tie things up to keep the Ralph
Hershfelt Cup for Another Season
Greenwood - Amateurs came
out a bit cold in four-ball matches
on Saturday against the Mississippi
PGA members. The pros gained a
point on the amateurs, making the
score 3.5 to 2.5 moving into the
afternoon’s foursome matches.
However,
the
amateurs
recognized what needed to be done
and got to work in the afternoon.
Matches won by foursome teams,
Lampley/Reed,
Oller/Ellis,
Rhodes/Sellers and Laird/Naaman
allowed amateurs to gain a point
on the professionals. Amateurs won
MGA
40
four out of the six points available
in foursome matches.
Singles on Sunday truly came
down to the final matches with
the MPGA gaining speed on the
Amateurs up until the very final
match. The singles matches finished
with the MPGA winning one more
point than amateurs, making the
final score 12–12. With a tie in the
overall score, the Mississippi Golf
Association amateurs will retain the
Ralph Hershfelt for another season.
The MGA thanked Greenwood
Country Club for hosting the
MPGA
matches as well as Head Golf
Professional Robert Smith and

is thankful for the camaraderie
among the Mississippi PGA

this relationship moving forward.
