A beautiful weekend helped open a brand
new season of junior golf in Louisiana.
Sunny skies, comfortable temperatures,
and an occasional breeze welcomed golfers
to the Farm d’Allie Golf Club for the Mizuno
Louisiana USSSA Carencro Classic--the
first event of the 2016-17 Louisiana USSSA
Junior Golf Tour schedule.
While the temperatures were cooler than
usual, the competition on the course was hot.
Gage Primeaux and Colton Ryan battled
back-and-forth throughout the two-round,
36-hole Boys 15-18 tournament. Primeaux,
of Lake Charles, made a late run in the
second round to win the senior division title
by three strokes. Primeaux finished at 142.
Ryan, of Benton, shot 145 to take second
place. Harrison John of Lafayette shot 161
to take third place.
The boys intermediate division also
featured a close contest.
Eli Ortego of Lafayette and Peyton
Cantor of St. Amant were neck-and-neck
throughout the entire 36-hole event. Ortego
pulled away in the final few holes to edge
Cantor by two strokes. Ortego took home
the Boys 12-14 title by shooting 159. Cantor
took runner-up honors with a score of 161.
Cameron Myers of Lafayette finished in
third place by shooting 203.
