Furr competes in Junior Ryder Cup
Wilson Furr, of Jackson, the
2015 State Amateur Champion,
competed in the Junior Ryder Cup
at Interlachen Country Club in
Edina, Minnesota where the U.S.
won over Europe for the fifth time
in a row. .
Furr is one of 12 juniors, 6 boys
and 6 girls, who represented the
U.S. in the Junior Ryder Cup versus
Europe. The competition consists
of foursome, mixed four-ball, and
singles matches.
After the competition is
complete, both teams will get to
play a nine-hole “friendship” match
at Hazeltine National Golf Club in
Chaska, Minnesota, the site of the
2016 Ryder Cup. Congratulations
to Wilson Furr and good luck next
week representing Mississippi and
the United States at the Junior
Ryder Cup.
David Allen takes the title of 2016 Senior Amateur Champion
The final round of the Senior
Amateur took place at Deerfield
Country Club and ended with
David Allen taking the win.
There
was
some
heavy
competition in each of the divisions.
Allen’s final day score of 71 and 215
total. The runner up in the Senior
Division was Rickey Riley, shooting
218 for the tournament.
The Grand Masters Division
was the first to finish up, with Larry
Wagster taking the win with a
three day score of 229 (+13). The
Super Senior Division Champion
was first time winner Peter Marks,
with a total score of 221 (+5). The
second place spot was shared by
Earl Thorton and Howard Waugh
with a three-day total of 224 (+8).
The Mississippi Golf Association
thanked Deerfield Country Club
for hosting the tournament and all
those who participated.
