Organizers of your golf group would be wise to
consider Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana for
your next golf getaway. Lake Charles invites you “haveclubs-will-travel” folks. It wants to welcome you and
show off its courses, its culture, its cuisine, its natural
wonders and its side-by-side casinos that would make
the best in Las Vegas blush.
Fact is, this city of 70,000 in Calcasieu Parish down
in the left-hand corner of Louisiana’s boot has all the
ingredients to pass a good time cher, be it playing golf,
rolling the bones on the craps table or sitting down for
a sumptuous seafood repast.
And don’t blink because scuttlebutt has it Lake
Charles is about to experience some serious growth,
an explosion insiders say may triple its metropolitan
population in the near future.
Although any day that ends in a ‘y’ would be
acceptable for this surprising little jaunt, the best
access to the best golf is during the week for those with
the requisite time on their hands. A recent trip did just
that for me. It included The National Golf Club at
Westlake, The Country Club at the Golden Nugget,
Gray Plantation and Contraband Bayou Golf Club
at L’Auberge Casino Res
