Allen wins Assistant Championship in
playoff
Billy Allen, PGA Apprentice from Deerfield Golf
Club in Canton, Miss., captures the 2016 National
Car Rental Gulf States Assistant PGA Professional
Championship in a one-hole playoff at Diamondhead
Country Club–Cardinal on Sept. 13. Allen will be
representing the Gulf States Section at the 2016
National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional
Championship, which will be played at PGA Golf
Club’s Wanamaker course on Oct. 27-30.
Diamondhead Country Club provided a great test to
18 players. The participants felt the heat from the high
temperatures on day one and rainy conditions on day
two, which only added to the pressure to compete for
the one spot available to the Section for the National
Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship
taking place this fall.
Allen shot scores of 72 and 70 for a total of 2-under
142, which tied PGA Apprentice Greg Sonnier of
Lake Charles Country Club. Allen orchestrated two
fabulous shots, which afforded him a tap in birdie on
the first playoff hole to take home the title.
Claiming the three alternate spots for the National
Championship was PGA Apprentice Greg Sonnier of
Lake Charles Country Club, PGA Member Andrew
Peyton of Baton Rouge Country Club, and PGA
Apprentice Jared Smith of Canebrake Country Club.
The Gulf States PGA thanked the staff and
membership at Diamondhead Country including
Director of Golf and PGA Member Chris Altese.
The Section also thanked Title Sponsor National Car
Rental and Supporting Sponsors Cleveland, Srixon
and the PGA Tour.

Goff and Ramey Take ANTIGUA/Haas-Jordan Pro-Pro
PGA Professionals Drew Goff
and Kyle Ramey have earned the
honor of being named the 2016
Gulf States PGA Antigua/HaasJordan Pro-Pro Champions after
edging out their fellow players in a
scorecard playoff at this year’s event
held at The University Club of
Baton Rouge on Aug. 29.
Fifty-three players gathered on
this picture-perfect day, forming
57 teams looking to claim the win.
However, it was the team of PGA
Assistant Professional Drew Goff
of New Orleans Country Club
and PGA Head Professional Kyle
Ramey of Windance Country Club
that would take it all after earning a
team score of 6-under-66.
Three other teams were tied at
6-under-66.
“They played a great round of
team golf, especially on the back 9”
said Patrick Murphy, Tournament
and Player Development Director
of the Gulf States PGA. He added,
“When one player made a mistake
the other made par or birdie on the
same hole.”
“We would like to thank Dan and
Kitty Peoples for their sponsorship
along with Antigua, Haas-Jordan,
and Lorente. This is the largest field
we have had in years,” said Murphy.
The Gulf States PGA Section
thanked event sponsors, Dan and
Kitty Peoples of Antigua and HaasJordan, as well as Lorente and
Brooks Brothers for providing a firstclass event to all who participated.
Todd Blackmar of Haas-Jordan
was also on site to help support the
event.
