LGA Players of the Year
36
The Louisiana Golf Association is pleased to
award its 2018 Player of the Year to Brandon
Aydlett of Metairie and 2018 Senior Player of
the Year to Ken Buchan of Monroe.
Aydlett won in dominating fashion, amassing
325 total points. Jacob Bergeron of Slidell
finished runner-up in the Player of the Year
standings with 205 points. The Senior Player of
the Year race proved to be much tighter, and the
results were not officially determined until the
final putt dropped at the 2018 LGA Senior Four-
Ball in September. Buchan won that event with
his partner Bart Dornier of Metairie, and as a
result, he jumped four spots to finish the year in
first place. Buchan garnered 170 total points this
season, earning a ten-point win over runner-up
Robby McWilliams of Benton.
Aydlett had strong showings throughout his
2018 campaign, finishing runner-up in both
the LGA Four-Ball and LGA Mid-Amateur
Championships, and his crowning achievement
for the 2018 Season was his victory at the 99th
LGA Amateur Championship at Oakbourne
Country Club in Lafayette. His four-round
total of 282 (six-under par) at the State Amateur
secured a four-stroke victory over runner-up
Matt Weber of Scott. Following his win at the
2018 LGA Amateur Championship, Aydlett
finished in a tie for second at the LGA Four-Ball
at The University Club in Baton Rouge, only
one shot behind the Champions. Aydlett and
his partner John Humphries of Woodworth shot
rounds of five-under (67) and six-under (66) for a
36-hole total of 11-under par (133). A few weeks
later, Aydlett would find himself in the hunt for
yet another LGA Championship, this time at the
27th LGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Le
Triomphe Golf & Country Club in Broussard.
Aydlett carded three consecutive rounds under-
par (71-68-69) for a 54-hole total eight-under
(208). He was the only player in the field to shoot
under par in all of his championship rounds.
However, at the completion of play on Sunday
he found himself in a three-way tie for first.
Aydlett eventually surrendered the victory to
Hank Shaheen of Dequincy after a hard fought
and dramatic playoff that lasted four holes.
Buchan’s Senior POY campaign was full of
impressive highlights. He finished solo fourth
at the LGA Senior Amateur (60 points), and
he also made the cut at the LGA Amateur and
Mid-Amateur, finishing T52 (15) and T26 (15),
respectively. As mentioned above, Buchan’s
status as LGA Senior Player of the year hinged
on his performance in the LGA Senior Four-
Ball Championship at The Bluffs on Thompson
Creek in St. Francisville, in which he collected 80
points from a first-place.
It was an outstanding 2018 season for
both Brandon Aydlett and Ken Buchan.
Congratulations to both of these players!
