future LSU Tiger Presley Baggett wins MGA ’ s Mississippi State Women ’ s Amateur

Greenwood , Mississippi - Presley Baggett won the Mississippi Golf Association ’ s Women ’ s Amateur event in its first time under the administration of the Mississippi Golf Association .
The event was held at the par- 73 , 5300-yard course at Greenwood Country Club . The tournament format was 18-holes stroke play followed by a 54-hole match play .
After the first 18 holes qualifying round several medalist were awarded . The Junior Medalist and Championship Division Stroke play winner was Presley Baggett with a 73 even par . Marsha Stewart became the Regular division Medalist after posting a score of 77 .
Other medalists included Cissye Gallagher , senior medalist ; Sheila Haynes , super senior medalist ; Sissy Kern , grand senior medalist ; and Charlene Hughes , super grand senior medalist .
Haynes earned the putting trophy after her impressive 24 putts in the 18-hole qualifying round . The Steel Magnolias team of Angela Peterson , Marsha Stewart , Deborah Bailey and Elsa Foley won the Team Trophy . Northwood Country Club members Lou Hart and Pam Posey won the senior team trophy .
Baggett won 5 and 3 over Kathleen Gallagher to become the 2018
Women ’ s State Amateur Champion . Gallagher is a current LSU Women ' s Golf Team member , and Presley will join the Tigers this fall . In the first flight , Shannon Adams won 3 and 2 over Lisa Horsley . In the second flight , Angela Peterson defeated Deborah Bailey 4 and 3 . Ann Calhoon won 2 and 1 over Tracie Tolbert to become the third flight Champion . Mary Graham won the Fourth Flight title after winning 2 and 1 over Ann Villeret .
The MGA thanked Greenwood for hosting the championship as well as Greenwood Head Professional John Pielemeier and his staff .

Furr wins 2nd State Amateur Championship

Wilson Furr of Jackson , captured his second Mississippi State Amateur Title on Sunday at The Preserve Golf Club . Furr expanded his 6 stroke lead to 10 after the first 9 holes of the final round and finished the championship at 12 under par ( 272 ).
Austin Rose of Tupelo , fired a final round 67 to move into a tie with Ben Snow of Hattiesburg in the runner-up position at one under par ( 283 ).
The Charles Green Team Trophy was awarded to The Country Club of Jackson with a combined team score of 275 . Jake Bradley and Wilson Furr were the low team players for the Country Club of Jackson with the team edging Deerfield Golf Club by 2 strokes . Deerfield ’ s Trey Denton and Scott Rhodes had a combined score of 277 .
The Preserve Golf Club was in premium , championship condition with lush fairways and firm , fast greens , according to the Mississippi Golf Association staff . The wind was a direct factor the first three days , while very warm and muggy conditions were key in the final round .
The MGA thanked Jeremy Stevens , head golf course superintendent , and his staff , as well
as Head PGA Golf Professional Chris Champagne and his golf operations staff
The MGA also acknowledged Stephen Miles , general manager , and the staff at The Preserve Golf Cub for hosting the 103rd Men ' s State Amateur Championship .
