Top Ranked Junior Golfers Looking to Shine
in the 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy
Moore Memorial
18
NEW ORLEANS, La.- Eighty-four of
the United States’ elite junior golfers are
set compete in another talented field at the
2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore
Memorial. This year’s tournament consists
of players from across the country that
will travel to New Orleans for a prestigious
playing opportunity this holiday season.
The 2018 championship will be held at
TPC Louisiana, home of the PGA TOUR’s
Zurich Classic of New Orleans, on December
27-28th and will feature boys and girls
ages 13-18. The Pete Dye designed course
presents a challenging, yet fun experience
for competitors. The course is among Golf
Digest’s “Top 100 Public Golf Courses” and
stretches over 250 acres of Mississippi River
delta wetlands.
“We are honored to host the Allstate
Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore Memorial,” said
TPC Louisiana’s head golf professional Matt
Williamson, PGA. “It is great to see the top
junior golfers in the country competing at
TPC Louisiana. Kelly Gibson and his team
put on a first- class event.”
A testament to this tournament’s
competitive field is the number of AJGA
performance stars awarded to the boys and
girls champions. The boys champion will be
awarded eight (8) stars and the girls champion
will be awarded twelve (12) stars.
Three-time Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy
Moore Memorial champion, Yujeong Son, of
Norman, OK, has said that TPC Louisiana
is ‘one of her all-time favorite courses to
play.’ She is now working her way towards
a career on the LPGA Tour. Recently, she
placed first in stage one of LPGA qualifying
school. Last year’s boys champion, Fisher
Vollendorf, of Fayetteville, AR, is currently
playing collegiate golf at the University of
North Carolina Charlotte.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore
Memorial Junior Golf Championship is
an annual tournament inviting top-ranked
junior golfers from across the country
to compete each holiday season in New
Orleans, LA.
The late Tommy Moore was the
most accomplished junior golfer to ever
emerge from the New Orleans area. In
1980, Tommy was ranked #1 in the Golf
Digest Junior World Rankings and went
on to have a decorated collegiate career at
Oklahoma State University where he was
an All- American, National Champion, and
Academic All-American.
After playing on the PGA TOUR for
three seasons, Tommy Moore’s life was cut
short at the young age of 35 due to a rare
blood disease. In his memory, the Kelly
Gibson Foundation is proud to partner with
the Allstate Sugar Bowl to host a national
event that recognizes the impact Tommy
made on junior golf and the New Orleans
community.
