frazier and sanders win LGA 4-ball
Phillip Frazier and Jay Sanders of Baton Rouge fired a five-
under par 67 on Sunday at the University Club in Baton Rouge to
win the 35th Louisiana Golf Association Four-Ball Championship
by one stroke. Coupled with the low round of the Championship
from Saturday (65), the team finished at 12-under par 132.
The teams of Brandon Aydlett of Metairie and John Humphries
of Woodworth and Zachary Barrios and Jacob Bergeron of Slidell
finished tied for second, just one shot back at eleven-under par.
Frazier and Sanders shot a 32 on the front 9 and a 35 on the back
9, and their final round 67 included seven birdies and two bogeys.
Frazier and Sanders are both Mid-Amateur competitors, and they
had to grind out a hard-fought win over younger competition. The
Baton Rouge duo showcased teamwork as Frazier contributed
seven birdies and an eagle over the course of 36 holes, while
Sanders provided six total birdies (they both birdied the par 5 3rd
hole on Sunday). This is Frazier’s first LGA Championship, and
Sanders, a recently reinstated amateur, has won a total of four
LGA Championships dating back to 1987.
Rounding out the top 5 are: 4.) Brandt Garon of Jackson and
Eric Hoffman of Denham Springs (134), T5.) Anthony Alfonso
and Brian Meaux of Baton Rouge (138), T5.) Grady Brame of
Hammond and Tommy Brennan of Covington (138), T5.) Dennis
Brown of Gonzales and Landon Covington of Denham Springs
(138).
rogillio wins LGA junior amateur two qualify for US amateur
It was an incredible day of
golf at East Ridge Country Club
in Shreveport. The 61st LGA
Junior Amateur Championship
was previously suspended each of
the last two days due to inclement
weather, and competitors had
only completed 18 holes of play
heading into Friday. That meant
that the best junior golfers in
Louisiana faced the monumental
task of playing 36 holes in one
day in the Louisiana summer
heat. BJ Rogillio of Baton Rouge carded rounds of 74
and 70 on Friday, and he never relinquished the first
round lead he had amassed after firing the low round of
the Championship on Wednesday, a five-under par 66.
Rogillio finished with a 54-hole total of three-under par
210 to win by one stroke over 2017 LGA Junior Amateur
Champion Nicholas Arcement of Thibodaux.

Jack Tolson of
Opelousas, Louisiana
and Carter Toms of
Shreveport, Louisiana
earned co-medalist
honors after shooting
a 36-hole total of
four-under par 138 on
Monday at the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier at East
Ridge Country Club in Shreveport. Tolson, who plays
college golf at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette,
fired the low round of the day (67) in the first round.
Amazingly, it was the first time that he had ever played
the golf course. He arrived to Shreveport late Sunday
evening after driving straight from another tournament
in Mississippi. Tolson held it together in his afternoon
round, shooting an even par 71. Toms, who plays college
golf at Louisiana State University, got off to a blistering
start Monday morning and was four-under par through
his first five holes. He would go on to card a one-under
par 70 in his opening round. Toms knew he would have
to take it low in the afternoon to advance, and he did
just that by firing a three-under par 68. Tolson and Toms
will now advance to the 118th Championship proper at
Pebble Beach Golf Links, to be conducted August 13-19,
2018.
