Fontenot impresses, Garrett wins at Cajun
Classic
by Ian Auzenne
LAFAYETTE, La.—Kale Fontenot played the round
of his life Wednesday at the Oakbourne Country Club.
Fontenot, who played up a division this weekend,
dominated on his home course in the second round of
the Mizuno Louisiana USSSA Cajun Classic, recorded
four birdies on the round to finish the day with a 68.
Despite that outstanding round, Fontenot fell just
short of winning the Boys 15-18 division title.
Tyler Garrett, of Emerson, Arkansas, took advantage
of the nine-stroke lead he had entering the first round
and won the senior division title. Garrett finished the
first round at an even 72 and coasted to a second-round
75 to clinch the title with a final score of 147, holding
off Fontenot by two strokes. Jace Lejeune, of Jennings,
finished in third place with a total of 162.
Zachary Robertson was victorious in the Boys 12-14
group. Robertson, of Lake Charles, took a three-stroke
lead into the second round and never looked back,
shooting a 157 to win the intermediate division title.
Alston Manne, of Baton Rouge, finished in a distant
second place by shooting 167. Chase Garrett, of
Emerson, Arkansas, shot 173 to take third.
Laura D’Amico, of Lafayette, improved her game by
six strokes in the second round to take top honors in the
Girls 15-18 division, finishing with a total of 184.
