ABOUT PAST ISSUES ADVERTISE PANDORA PROJECT CONTACT R’s note EDITO HEY GIRL! Welcome to the first edition of Backchat! I’m super excited that you’re here. We’re all about you, just as you are. We aim to help you with issues, have some fun and keep you up to date and informed about all things girlrelated. It’s tough being a girl in today’s society - you’re got your parents expecting things from you, your friends offering advice from one side and the media nagging at you from the other - “you’ve gotta try much harder at school, you have to be cool, to fit in and you’ve gotta be beautiful to stand out.” Well, we’re calling NONSENSE on the whole thing. You’ve just gotta be you. At school it’s really difficult there’s name-calling and cattiness, especially between girls. This is something that we at Backchat simply can’t stand. People may call you whatever they like, but in our magazine, there’s no place for labels. Labels belong on cans, never on people. people questioning who you are. Between these pages you’ll find out all you need to know about how to go about proving your critics wrong, being yourself and succeeding. Recently I popped into a market to buy some flowers, and a guy pointed me out to his friend saying, “See, I told you - this is a hipster market.” YOU, my love, can be whatever or whomever you want to be - after all, life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself. Labels belong on cans, never on people. I turned around and laughed at him. He doesn’t know me, but he thought he could tell all there was to know about me just because of the way I was dressed. It takes time to learn how to face bullies, and to learn how to deal with Lots of love, P.S. We would love to hear from you! Feel free to send in letters, short stories or poetry that you’ve written.
