Apple Upside-Down Pie
You will need:
apple pie filling
crust
pie topping
salted caramel sauce
Salted Caramel Sauce
2 cups granulated sugar
1½ sticks unsalted butter
(¾ cup) 1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon (or more or less) sea salt
In a heavy saucepan, cook the sugar on low-medium heat until the sugar begins to turn an
amber color. Do not stir the sugar, but you can swirl the pan around to mix it that way. Watch
the sugar carefully as it can burn easily. Once it reaches 350°, add the butter, whisking quickly
to combine. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in heavy cream. Mix in salt and let
cool.
The crust
2 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons shortening
2 tablespoons cold butter
7 tablespoons orange juice
