street fashion with color

Forget the chicken and the egg ! Which came first , the outfit or the art ? When dressing to match is the name of the game , @ woodsdowestcoast plays it both ways .
We love color , art , and fashion , and most of all , we love combining the three ! When we moved to the West Coast , I used mural hunting as a way of exploring different neighborhoods and getting acquainted with our new city . Since we didn ' t know what we ' d stumble upon , in the beginning it was mostly the mural that would inspire the outfit . Now that we have our bearings and a good grasp on San Diego street art , it ' s usually the outfit that comes first and the mural that follows . And sometimes , when nothing is quite right , I create our backdrop .
A question we are often asked is how do we find all of this art ? Is it real ? The answer is yes , 85 % of the murals in our photos are indeed real . We are lucky to live in a city with an abundance of murals and programs like Ladies Who Paint , a nonprofit organization that empowers female artists and hosts a yearly mural painting festival . The remainder consists of the backgrounds I ' ve myself painted , drawn , or assembled with objects , or the occasional Photoshop creation . A great way to find artwork in your city is through hashtags . For example , I follow # sandiegomurals . Additionally , once I learn of a muralist in our city , I follow them to stay up to date on their work . It ' s always fun to follow along with new mural progress and plan for a shoot upon their completion . And of course whenever possible , we credit the artist and hope they enjoy seeing our photos and interaction with their work as much as we appreciate their art .
I love treating clothing as art itself , from styling in an unexpected way to playing with the colors and lines against our backgrounds . Our favorite brands to shoot include Raspberry Plum , Wauw Capow , Caroline Bosmans , Mini Rodini , Romey Loves Lulu , Tia Cibani , and Nikolia , to name a handful . I am drawn to bright colors and whimsical designs that really pop when mixed with a colored background , and the more drama the better ! When it comes to photographs , our motto is the opposite of Coco ' s : Before leaving the house , look in the mirror and put one more thing on !
Things we are loving for fall include : exaggerated silhouettes , metallics , and mixing patterns and textures . Bring on the puff , the fluff , and everything in between .
