As a mother of two children and resident of the beautiful Central Coast for 18 years, I love our community and care for its success. I live in Chittaway Bay with my husband and youngest son. As a resident, mother, small business owner, former Councillor on Wyong Shire Council, and former Deputy Mayor, I understand the needs and concerns of our region. I worked for Wyong Shire Council as a Community Development Worker before being elected as a Councillor in 2008 and Deputy Mayor in 2011. In my time working for the Community and in Council I strived to achieve the best for our diverse society. Whilst I was on Council I was instrumental in instigating the Local Preference Policy, which specifies utilising local contractors, builders and trades – if it’s built on the coast it should be built by the coast and bond free community hall hiring for Not for Profit organisations. I had a great input into saving Mascord Ov al and Buff Point Park. I served on the grants, traffic, consultative and sport committees for Wyong Shire Council and I created the Status of Women’s Committee and have been Chair since 2012. I am passionate about local employment opportunities for young people, given our region has one of the highest rates of youth unemployment in Australia. I am also very passionate about supporting people with disabilities and I intend to promote the Action Disability Plan. As your Labor Candidate we will focus on: • Rebuilding our Council through increasing the accountability of councillors and staff; supporting our local community groups and organisations; we will encourage more local employment, including in-house Council apprenticeships. • Protecting our community assets by keeping all our community assets in public, not private, ownership; we will work to ensure adequate funding for all council recreation facilities, so that they are maintained to a high standard; importantly, we will oppose any more mining or extraction of gas. • Provide services to all our community through supporting and advocating for an increase in the roads and drainage budget; lobby State Government for improvements and diversity of public transport options. Whilst I did not support the amalgamation of the two councils I am prepared to stand up and fight for our community in the new Central Coast Council, I will always try to be the voice of integrity and reason, I will ask the residents of The Entrance Ward to vote for me on September 9th, where we will deliver on our community commitments.
