3. ACTIVITY NAME: GITKOM/ BIRTHDAY – SUBSTITUTING WEIRD VOCABULARY

PREPARATION:
Copies with the text ‘GITKOM’ = ‘BIRTHDAY’
PROCEDURE: warm-up: Teacher speaks about someone he/she saw the day before in the
town. It should be interesting. T can ask if students notice strangers.
Link – a story about a man for the students to read.
1. Give to SS 1 minute to read the text ‘GITCOM’. They should decide if the
man in the story is HAPPY/UNHAPPY.
2. SS in pairs discuss why they think the man is happy/unhappy. Then they tell
the teacher.
3. SS read the text again and underline word words. There are 38 weird
words.
4. SS are asked to substitute the words with correct/ogical words.
5. SS form pairs and read the text to each other.
6. The teacher reads the original.
7. Any follow-up discussion, can be about birthdays.
MATERIALS/
EQUIPMENT
NEEDED: computer and screen
copy for each student with the story ‘GITKOM’
A word document with the correct story to be displayed on screen or several
copies to be put into groups.
Students can write their own stories and put there weird words for their
partner to correct.
