PROCEDU
RE:
1. CONTEXT – ask SS if anyone has seen the movie ‘ The Nightmare Before
Christmas’. If yes, ask the person to describe the genre, plot, the main character,
etc. You can display pictures (I am not sharing because of author’s right.)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
- animated musical dark fantasy
- story of Jack Skellington, the King of "Halloween Town" who stumbles
through a portal to "Christmas Town" and decides to celebrate the holiday.
- it originated in a poem written by Tim Burton
2. Lyrics WORD HUNT – SS make groups – you can have 1 students compete with 1
student (= 1 group) or 2 students with 2 students (= 1 group), each team gets a set
of cards with the words they will hear in the song ‘This Is Halloween.’ They shall
place them in front of them on the desk. Tell them they are going to hear the song
’This Is Halloween’ and will have to pick a word when they hear it. The winner is a
person/pair with more cards picked. “! Do not pick if you are not sure.”
3. Play the song. It is better to play an MP3 of high quality than the video. Students
listen to the song and pick cards.
Teacher goes around the classroom and checks if they do not pick words that have
not been played yet.
If still cards left, you can play the song the second time.
4. Students count their cards, the winners can get something (a sweet).
5. Display the lyrics, explain with students highlighted ‘scary words’. make sure
they understand the lyrics. 6. Watch the video 7. Students may sing the song.
8. Evaluate the activity – thumbs method
